The Royal Canadian Legion has an exceptional Youth Education program Canada wide, and as chairman of Branch 229 Elora, I am writing to promote their Public Speaking competition which takes place on February 11th at the Elora Legion.
In this age of electronic communication, public speaking is becoming a lost art. Many schools have discontinued speech competitions in the classroom, something that was part of the curriculum for so many years.
Public speaking is a great opportunity for students to develop communication skills. It is an experience that builds both confidence and self esteem.
This competition is open to all students from Grades 1 to 12, including home schooled children. Cash prizes for first, second and third place winners. Information is available at www.on.legion.ca – youth programs, or call Darlene McClellan at 519-846-9187.
