Canada’s Ballet Jörgen is returning to River Run Centre on Dec. 20 and Dec. 21 at 7:30pm with The Nutcracker.
Once again, local dance students will have the opportunity to perform with the professional dancers of Canada’s Ballet Jörgen.
Nutcracker auditions took place on Sept. 8.
Created in 2008 and choreographed by Bengt Jörgen to Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s well-loved score, this re-working of the timeless classic is born from a collaboration with Kleinburg’s world-renowned McMichael Canadian Art Collection.
Ballet Jörgen’s The Nutcracker features as a backdrop Canada’s 20th Century landscape artists Franklin Carmichael’s Church and Houses at Bisset (1931), Tom Thomson’s Snow in the Woods (1916) and L.L. FitzGerald’s Trees and Wildflowers (1922).
Audiences embark on a grand journey through our northern lands filled with snowflakes, trilliums and woodland creatures.
Roles such as Deer, Beaver, Frog, Dragonfly, Squirrel and Bear Cub are filled by young dancers selected during the auditions.
Founded in 1987, Canada’s Ballet Jörgen is a classical ballet company with the mandate of making ballet accessible and relevant to 21st century audiences.
