Parks could honour veterans

A proposal to name five small parks after local soldiers who died in the First World War will be considered by Erin town council.

The intention is to honour veterans to mark the 100th anniversary of the armistice that ended the war on Nov. 11, 1918.

On Sept. 4, councillor Jeff Duncan gave notice of a motion to be discussed at the next meeting, Oct. 2 at 3pm.

He said the park naming would “facilitate reflection and education for our community on the sacrifice of local veterans in the service of Canada.”

If the plan is accepted, the town would work with Erin’s Royal Canadian Legion branch to develop recommendations for the parks, which are currently without official names.

Locations

The locations are: Sandal Wood Drive in Ballinafad, Crewson Court in Crewsons Corners, Elizabeth Crescent in Orton and two in Ospringe (the new park planned for the Thomasville subdivision and the existing park on Stewart Drive).
