The Guelph Humane Society (GHS) is seeking information from the public after a stray dog was found by a member of the public on Aug. 5 in the afternoon.
The Shih Tzu mix, found in deplorable condition, wandering on the Royal Recreation Trail, west of Exhibition Park in Guelph, was secured by a GHS Animal Protection Officer (APO).
The senior dog was immediately transported by the APO to the veterinarian for examination, which revealed the dog was dehydrated, extremely underweight, suffering from severe hair loss, and also had untreated eye and skin conditions.
The nervous male dog is now being monitored closely at the shelter, while receiving much-needed care.
“We are asking for the public’s assistance to help find the owner of this dog,” said Megan Swan, Ontario SPCA agent.
“We want to understand more about his medical condition and how he came to be wandering on this trail in Guelph.”
Anyone with information that could assist the Guelph Humane Society is asked call 519-824-3091 immediately.
The Guelph Humane Society wants to remind the community that if you or someone you know is unable to care for an animal, call GHS at 519-824-3091 or email intake@guelphhumane.ca.
The humane society is here to help individuals or families that are no longer able to provide care for their pets, for any reason, officials state.
