The Heritage Music Festival, featuring the 68th Canadian Open Old Time Fiddle Championship, will take place Aug. 8 to 12 in Shelburne.
Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Shelburne, the event features a variety of entertainers, including The Trews and the Beckett Family, as well as Canada’s top fiddlers in competition for thousands of dollars in prizes.
Unless otherwise stated, events take place at 200 Fiddle Park Lane, Shelburne.
Community events include camping, Bands and Brews at the Fiddle Park, a pork barbecue, a giant fiddle parade, an open air market and a non-denominational church service.
The Trews and The Pop Machine will take to stage on Aug. 10 at 7:30pm.
Linsey and Tyler Beckett will play on Aug. 9 at 7:30pm.
“The Beckett Family is sure to get your toes tappin’ with their arrangements of traditional country music and old time fiddling,” organizers state.
“Their show captures the corners of traditional music from Western Swing to Bluegrass, includes exhilarating step dancing, down home humour, old time fiddling and special quests.”
Fiddle championship
The Canadian Open Old Time Fiddle Championship starts with the playdowns on Aug. 10 at 10am at the Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex (Shelburne Arena) with the young and the young at heart (9 and under, 10 to 12, and 56 and over classes), followed by the remaining age classes, gospel, group, novelty, bluegrass and the open classes.
The championship will culminate on Aug. 10 at 6:30pm and will feature the crowning of the Canadian Open Champion and Canadian Open Junior Champion, entertainment by multiple Canadian Open Old Time Fiddle Champion Louis Schryer and the judges’ showcase.
Proceeds of the Heritage Music Festival support Shelburne Rotary’s charitable projects.

A weekend pass is $75 and includes Country Jamboree, The Beckett Family, The Trews, Fiddle Playdowns, Bands and Brews and Fiddle Championship.
Tickets for the Country Jamboree on Aug. 8 at 7pm are $7 at the door only.
Tickets for the Beckett Family Show, which takes place at Aug. 9 at 7:30pm, are $25 for adults and $10 for youth.
Tickets for The Trews, which, takes place Aug. 10 at 7:30pm are $40.
Tickets for the competition playdowns on Aug. 11 at 10am are by donation.
Tickets for the Bands and Brews Fiddle Park on Aug. 11 at 2:30pm are by donation.
Tickets to the Fiddle Championship on Aug. 11 at 6:30pm are $25 for adults and $10 for youth.
For a family of two adults and two children 18 years and younger are $75.
