Boats collide, teen girl almost drowns

Officials say a teenage girl almost drowned after being thrown overboard when two boats collided on Belwood Lake.

Emergency crews were called to the lake at about 7:35pm on July 2 for reports of a “near drowning.” Centre Wellington deputy fire chief Jonathan Karn said two boats collided, “causing a person to become unconscious and fall into the water.”

The person, identified by the OPP as a 14-year-old girl, was brought to a nearby dock and assisted by firefighters and paramedics. She was conscious when transported to hospital, Karn said.

An update on her condition was not available by press time.
