Chris Hall is hoping residents will pack Clifford Rotary Park and Pavilion this weekend for the 9th annual Clifford Antique and Classic Truck Show.
Hall, the event organizer, says the truck show has helped put Clifford and Minto on the map.
“People don’t realize Clifford is well known,” he said, noting 160 trucks were on display at the 2017 show.
“This is the largest gathering of antique and classic big rigs in Canada.”
The show, which runs on June 29 and 30, focuses on classic and antique “big rigs,” not cars and trucks, Hall explained.
The event, organized annually by the Great Lakes Truck Club with help from the Clifford Rotary Club, includes trucks from all over southern Ontario, with some coming from as far away as Quebec, Michigan and Ohio.
Hall points out the show is popular with truck drivers and owners because it’s like a trucker’s reunion, with interaction and bonding between entrants – something he says is missing from other shows.
“It’s an old time truck show,” said Hall.
He noted there is no judging at the Clifford show, but Chalmers Fuels in Teviotdale has donated 1,000 litres of diesel fuel for a draw open to all entrants.
Hall explained this year’s feature trucks are Ford heavy trucks and he said a popular feature again will be the “cabover cruise-in,” which offers two rows dedicated to retro cabover trucks.
“It’s like an old truck stop in the 1970s,” said Hall.
The show also offers camping on both nights and a barbecue pork chop dinner on Saturday evening.
Hall stressed Town of Minto staff have been a great help to show organizers.
“I can’t say enough about the town,” Hall said. “They appreciate the event, which is nice to see.”
The Clifford Antique and Classic Truck Show runs on June 29 from 9am to 8pm and June 30 from 8am to 8pm. Admission is $5.
