Guelph-Eramosa council has lifted parking restrictions on Promenade Road for the summer months, allowing parking on both sides.
The road is located just north of the City of Guelph boundary and runs between Wellington Road 124 and Speedvale Ave. East.
A petition, signed by the majority of the residents on the road, requested that Guelph-Eramosa
Township lift the parking restrictions on the parking restricted side of the road so vehicles could park on both sides.
“Public works evaluated the width of the road, did some traffic counts and we don’t have an issue in this, in support of lifting that restriction to allow parking on both sides,” director of public works Harry Niemi told council on June 11.
“Again that’s only in summer. The winter restrictions apply township-wide.”
Niemi did say he noticed there was an “unusual amount of buses” using Promenade Road through the traffic study.
“I’ve got to believe they’re school buses,” Mayor Chris White said. “I don’t know why but they may be going through there to turn around.”
The change has no financial impact on the township but required the removal of the “no parking” signs, which Niemi said can be repurposed for use at a later date.
“I think this is a good solution,” White said.
“I don’t see any reason why anybody should be restricted from parking on both sides of the road.
“The roads are big enough and it’s summer and everybody else can do it and it will slow traffic down, in theory.”
