Conservation Symposium part of Fly Fishing Canada national championship

The upcoming fly fishing nationals is not only a chance to fish but also to learn.

This year, Fly Fishing Canada’s (FFC) 16th annual national championship will be based in Centre Wellington from June 6 to 8.

Venues include the Grand River, Conestogo River and the Upper Credit Trout Club.

Officials say the event will bring together competitive anglers, volunteers and spectators from across Canada to share and experience the fine waters of the area.

From 2 to 4pm on June 5, FFC will hold its annual Conservation Symposium.

Held at the Hampton Barn at the Belwood Lake Conservation Area, the symposium features the following speakers and topics:

– “Flowing through Time: The Grand River in Centre Wellington” with Elysia DeLaurentis, principal researcher, Limerock Consulting;

– “I think we have a trout stream here: A short history of the creation of the Grand River Tailwater,” Jack Imhof, director of conservation ecology, Trout Unlimited Canada;

– “Trout Unlimited Canada – The Speed Valley Chapter Environmental Initiatives,” Dustin Lyttle, vice president Speed Valley chapter, Trout Unlimited Canada; and

– “Grand River Access Point Improvement Project,” Ashley Gallant, project manager, RTO4.

Admission to the symposium is $10 at the door (free for competitors and volunteers).
