4-H club has sporting focus

Sports and games are a great way to get active and have fun with friends. The Mapleton 4-H club started their spring club “A Sporting Chance” on March 20. The first meeting was held at Leader Lynne Flewwelling’s from 7 to 8:30pm.

The meeting was flipped around so members could play outdoors before dark.  We started by splitting into two teams and playing ball hockey.  We also played with a couple of experienced members as coaches and discussed the different roles used while playing a sport.

After the match we came indoors to hold elections. Elected were: president Bryce Gray, vice-president Paige Martin, secretary Mariska Rumph and press reporter Madison Martin.

We then took roll call, with the roll call question – “what is the weirdest sport you’ve played?” – being answered by 16 members. We then played two small team building games. One was where you had to put yourselves in order based on birthdays without saying a word. Then we played human tick tack toe.

We concluded the meeting with snacks.

Meeting two

Sports aren’t the only way to have fun while being active. Some fun games can be great ways to stay healthy.  On March 26, the Mapleton 4-H club met for their second Sporting Chance meeting.

Members of the group met at Lynne’s place from 7 to 8:30pm with president Bryce opening the meeting with the 4-H pledge.

The roll call question was “what sport would you find having tournaments?”

Members went outside to play the first game, starball, which was introduced by a group of members. Youth leader Tate introduced us to Riki Tikki, which resulted in a lot of laughs. We then went inside to play crokinole and had a bean bag tournament.  We finished the meeting with snack.

Meeting three

Almost nothing is more fun than spending time with friends and family playing some classic board games.  In the spirit of fun, the Mapleton 4-H club played some of the members’ favourite board games.

The meeting was held on April 3 at leader Cathy Dobben’s from 7 to 8:30pm.

President Bryce opened the meeting with the 4-H pledge. The roll call questions was “name your favourite board game.”

The group spent the remainder of the meeting playing some fun games with friends, including Yahtzee, Life, Guess Who, Pig in the Garden and Pit.

Cookies and juice were served for snacks.
