The Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) hearing regarding the proposed quarry off of Highway 7, east of Rockwood, is one year away.
The application appeal by James Dick Construction Limited to the OMB will be adjudicated over eight weeks starting on May 21, 2019.
With the date now set, Concerned Residents Coalition’s (CRC) ongoing fundraising will accelerate.
The first major event is the fifth annual plant sale, which will take place on May 19 from 8am to 1pm at the lights in downtown Rockwood at the REMAX office.
There will be heirloom vegetables, herbs, perennials, annuals grown or donated by CRC supporters.
Garden decorations will also be on sale. This year two 4.5 foot white pines have also been donated. Moreover, Wellington Green Legacy is providing 150 12- to 16-inch trees which will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The plant sale also provides an opportunity to learn more about the proposed “Hidden Quarry” to be located within a kilometre of Rockwood, next to Highway 7 and in the natural water recharging system known as the Paris-Galt Moraine.
The CRC opposes this quarry, which would be blasted 23 metres below the water table on a site which is now forest, creek, wetland and tree plantation.
All proceeds from the sale will support the CRC. For more information visit www.hiddenquarry.ca.
