Telfer Wegg of Neustadt showed numerous photos from his collection of seasonal views throughout Grey and Bruce counties at the recent Clifford District Horticultural Society meeting.
Rustic stone century homes, rolling acreage, cattle, fields of dandelions, wildflowers, waterways, waterfalls, shorelines, reflections, puddle pictures, flowers, single blooms and colour co-ordinated bee hive huts caught his attention.
Telfer Wegg’s adventures in photography have been translated into books, two of which he had for sale at the meeting, The Beauty and Bounty of Huron County and Agriculture Today – A Portrait of Family Farms in Ontario.
President Vic Palmer announced that past president Georgie Hutchison and her husband Bruce are moving to Elmira.
Palmers said he found Georgie to be a good mentor who was involved in a number of community activities.
The society’s canvass kits are ready to go, so residents are asked to be prepared for the possibility of purchasing a membership and supporting the society.
The funds help beautify the village.
The Earth Day clean-up day was scheduled for April 14 at the John Hobelman Memorial Rotary Park at the foot of Allan St. East.
Carloads of horticulture enthusiasts headed to the District 7 annual meeting in Alma on April 21.
Community minded children and adults were encouraged to meet at the Rotary Park at the south end of the village on April 28 for Trees and Quackers.
This National Arbour Day event ran in conjunction with the Clifford Rotary Club’s annual duck race.
Participants had a chance to plant a white spruce seedling, take one home, and cheer on the rubber ducks as they raced to win cash prizes for their sponsors.
A light lunch of muffins, cheese, and grapes was prepared by Jean Yenssen, Irene Judge and Marion Derbecker.

The annual plant and bake sale will be held May 11 and the spring flower show will be May 22 with guest speaker Marlene Wynnyk speaking on Sea Buckthorn.
