CWDHS student appointed to Minister”™s Student Advisory Council

A student from Centre Wellington District High School (CWDHS) will have a chance to make her voice heard at the Ministry of Education.

Kylie Barfoot has been appointed to the 2018-19 Minister’s Student Advisory Council (MSAC).

Barfoot was selected out of more than 400 applicants.

The council

Sixty students in Grades 7 to 12, including Barfoot, will serve on the council for the 2018-19 school year, representing the province’s cultural, social and geographic diversity.

Students selected show a passion for issues affecting today’s youth and have a strong desire to make a difference in the world, officials say.

Responsibilities

The MSAC allows students from across Ontario to make their voices heard regarding important issues in education.

Students sitting on MSAC meet with the Minister of Education twice during their one-year term, form sub-committees on topics that are important to them and may also participate in other student forums or conferences.

Recommendations

The council provides youths with an opportunity to share their perspectives with the Ministry of Education, make recommendations and participate in consultations.

Students are also able to provide feedback on a number of ministry initiatives.
