On March 19 at about 11am Wellington County OPP responded to a complaint about a scam involving prepaid Visa cards.
Police say the manager of a local business complained that on March 18 they received a call from a male claiming to be from the company’s IT department.
The male suspect advised the employee that there was a recall on prepaid Visa cards and asked the manager to immediately activate 16 cards.
The manager complied but then recognized the event as a scam. He was able to cancel about half the prepaid cards, police say, but the others were already spent.
