Humorist Arthur Black, a former resident of Fergus and CBC radio host, died last week after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.
Black, also a former columnist for the Fergus-Elora News Express, died on Feb. 21 at age 74 at Lady Minto Hospital on Salt Spring Island, B.C.
A statement on Black’s website from his family stated Black faced his illness “with his own unique combination of defiance and good humour.
“The family is very grateful for the overwhelming messages of support and good wishes received during his struggle with pancreatic cancer.”
Black first started with the CBC in 1972 in Thunder Bay.
He was perhaps best known for his Saturday morning show Basic Black, which ran for close to 20 years until he retired in 2002.
Black also penned a syndicated column of the same name which ran for years in the Fergus-Elora News Express.
He wrote several books, three of which won the Stephen Leacock Memorial Medal for Humour.
