Ukulele player James Hill and cellist-turned-songwriter Anne Janelle, are set to take the stage at the Fergus Grand Theatre for one performance on Jan. 18.
A singer, songwriter, educator and virtuoso instrumentalist, Hill is a man on a musical mission.
It’s a mission that reaches beyond the concert stage and into communities, homes and classrooms around the world.
Hill has played at concert halls, theatres, pubs, and festivals. He has conducted ukulele workshops worldwide.
A classically trained cellist with a beautiful voice, Janelle has released two solo albums and toured over 15 countries as an artist in her own right.
Together, Hill and Janelle craft a sound that is intricate, enchanting and engaging, officials say.
This duo is familiar with the Centre Wellington area.
“Some people were fortunate to hear James and Anne perform at area house concerts four or five years ago,” concert organizer Curt McQueen said.
“As well, they played the Highland Pub Tent and ran workshops a few years back at the Scottish festival. They were a big hit.”
The ukulele is an instrument that continues to grow in popularity for all people; young and old, musically experienced, or those just beginning.
The cello contrasts with its low notes and low bow strokes.
“Together, we’re like a pair of dancers who can’t step on each other’s feet,” Hill said.
All ages are welcome at the show. It is a chance to experience a truly unique combination of voices and instruments.
The show will take place on Jan. 18 at the Fergus Grand Theatre.
Doors open at 7pm and the performers take the stage at 7:30pm.
