Some people might have a phobia about the number 13, but it was a lucky evening, on Friday, Oct. 13, as the Catholic Women’s League of St. Martin of Tours, Drayton, hosted its annual euchre party.
Hosted in the parish hall, the event has been held in consecutive years for more than 50 years.
Although “the women” of the CWL no longer roast five turkeys for “the lunch” at the Drayton Senior School or the PMD Arena, the card party still begins at 8pm sharp on the first or second Friday of October each year.
Earl Campbell acted as master of ceremonies.
Euchre winners for the men were Floyd Schieck (high), Robert Peel (second highest), Brodie Meadows (low), and Jim Walker (most lone hands). Winners for the women were Theresa Cassel (high), Donna Schieck (second highest), Judy Shulist (low), and Audrey Dietz (most low hands).
Four different people won Chrysanthemums as door prizes: Shirley Dietz, Janet McDonald, Mike Brenner, and Brodie Meadows.
A luncheon of cold meats, pickles, tomatoes, lettuce, carrots, onions, buns, and homemade dessert was served following card play. Coffee, tea, juice and bottled water were available.
“It was a rich evening of fellowship and fun,” organizers state.
