Stories bring attendees through the curtain of time

Remember the Veterans and Honour the Fallen is a community based production featuring the personal accounts and memories of the First World War and Second World War The event on Nov. 11 at the Elora United Church from 2:30pm to 4pm features singing and music of Vera Lynn and includes a free will offering with proceeds to the Canadian War Amps.

Donna Mann writes “We stand in the shadow of others. We tell the stories entrusted to us, and both the story and the person become a part of our experience. This has been a quest through the years, especially around World Wars I and II and other wars where men and women have served. But stories of pain, separation and death are often difficult to pass on. Sometimes, they’re unbearable to put into words. Those of us who have read about the wars hold only a slight flicker of understanding compared to those who lived it. And yet, when we have opportunity to listen or read about others’ adventures and sacrifices, we are on holy ground.”

Mann added, “Come with us on this journey as people step through the curtain of time to bring stories, images and artefacts to mind. There will be a memory book for anyone who would like to add their story.”
