Smoke machines have been banned from Town of Minto facilities.
On Oct. 3 council approved a recommendation from the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee to ban the devices. Recreation services manager Matt Lubbers explained the devices have set off fire alarms at facilities. “We don’t want to ruin the fun but we don’t want any more false alarm calls,” said Lubbers.

He also advised council arena staff have obtained commitments for much of the ice time previously used by the Palmerston 81’s Senior hockey team. The 81’s recently announced they would not ice a team for the 2017-18 season. Officials state the team plans to compete in 2018-19.
Lubbers said staff have been able to fill, “pretty much all of the ice we lost from that group not playing this season.”
Minto Minor Hockey and local men’s recreational hockey teams have take up much of the ice team, he explained.
“Hopefully next year when they come back we can move them around to some of the open ice times that we have and increase the statistics there,” said Lubbers.
