On Sept. 22 Wellington County OPP was contacted by a victim of an investment fraud.
Police say the victim was contacted by an investment group by telephone and, through numerous call-backs, believed he was speaking with an actual employee of the investment group. The victim then began email correspondence with an individual who was to be working for the investment group.
“The victim transferred a sum of money to what was believed to be a legitimate investment company. After further email conversations with the suspect, the victim made a further larger investment,” police say.
“The victim has since not been able to reach the suspects or anyone at this alleged company and realized that it was a scam.” Police are investigating.
