Create a home escape plan

This year Fire Prevention Week is Oct. 9 to 16 and the Puslinch Fire and Rescue Services is reminding everyone that they can make a difference if there is a fire in their home.

This year’s theme is “Every Second Counts: Plan two Ways Out!”  The theme emphasizes the importance of having and practicing a home escape plan with everyone that lives in your home.

Fire doubles in size every minute and having an escape plan ensures that you and your family have the best chance if there is a fire.

Having two ways out of your home, such as a rear door, window or other exits need to a part of your plan and all family members need to be aware of the plan.

Having a safe meeting place is very important and should be a place that is stationary, such as a nearby house, mailbox or a fence away from your house.

During Fire Prevention Week, make sure to have a home escape plan, practice it and plan two ways out.
