Under sunny skies on Sept. 17 the annual Terry Fox Run for cancer research got underway from Forfar Park in Fergus.
The 10km run was to Shand Dam and back and there was also a 5km run or walk offered.
The Fergus run has raised over $200,000, with more to come from this year’s run for the cause.
Participant Sonny Shafer is a 32 -year cancer survivor.
He had brain cancer that was so advanced doctors were not going to operate when he was 16 years old and in 1986 he was told he had six weeks to six months to live.
After a massive operation Shafer went through many treatments and 10 years later his is healthy and able to participate in this run.
Shafer said he owes so much to the cancer society and will never give up this run to raise money.
Shafer applauds Fox by saying, “He is the greatest Canadian who ever lived and he has done so much for cancer even though he himself has passed away.”
