A vehicle fire in Belwood on Sept. 17 is being considered suspicious by the Centre Wellington fire department.
Fergus firefighters were called to a property owned by the Grand River Conservation Area on Sideroad 9 in Belwood around 7:30am and arrived to see a fully involved vehicle fire.
"It was unidentifiable, the plate was there and we gave that to the OPP, and the car was fully involved and fully destroyed," said Tom Mulvey public safety officer for Centre Wellington fire department.
"It was obviously suspicious in nature in the fact that there's nothing else back there."
Wellington County OPP spokesperson Josh Cunningham said police are considering if the vehicle is stolen.
"We're looking at the possibility that it was stolen out of Guelph City," said Cunningham.
"Under the guidance of the fire department, it certainly fits the criteria of being suspicious: a (possible) stolen vehicle with no obvious … reason to explain the fire."
In a later press release, police confirmed the 2014 Chevrolet Traverse was stolen from Guelph.
