A man with bad teeth who tried to break into a local home last week bit off more than he could chew, as his efforts were thwarted by a dog.
Wellington County OPP officers were called to South Street in Fergus on Aug. 29 to investigate the attempted break-in.
Police say that at about 8:30am a man living in the home let his dog out on a leash in the backyard. The dog ran off the porch towards the detached garage.
“The dog’s owner then noticed an unknown male suspect standing at the man door of the garage with his back towards him and appeared to be attempting to gain entry,” police stated in a press release.
“The dog grabbed a hold of the jacket that the suspect was wearing … and pulled it off him as the suspect fell backwards to the ground.”
The dog’s owner pulled the dog back into the house and the suspect fled.
Police describe the suspect as a white male approximately 30 to 35 years of age, six feet tall with a thin build, about 140 pounds, unshaven, blue eyes, black shoulder-length scruffy hair. He was wearing a black jacket, which the dog ripped, and a white T-shirt, blue jeans, brown belt and grey Jordan sneakers.
“He had poor dental hygiene,” police added of the suspect.
