Get the dirt on phosphorus

The Saugeen and Maitland Valley Conservation Authorities are hosting an innovative Phosphorus Management Day on Sept. 15.

“Get the Dirt on Phosphorus” will focus on common phosphorus management problems and stewardship solutions that will help keep nutrients on the fields.

Participants can expect speakers, tours, tillage demonstrations and equipment displays.

The day-long program begins at 8am at the North Huron Wescast Community Complex in Wingham.

The event is free and includes lunch.

Participants must register for this event.

“We’ve put together an agenda that will provide updates on the latest research as well as highlighting practical tips for farmers,” reported Tori Waugh, agricultural outreach coordinator for both Saugeen and Maitland Valley Conservation Authorities.

The event will begin with key note speakers from Agriculture and Agri-food Canada as well as the University of Guelph.

Afterwards participants will board the buses to tour several farms and facilities including a phosphorus mobility research station, strip till sites and equipment modification demonstrations.

Representatives from the University of Waterloo, Agronomy Advantage, OMAFRA, Ontario Soil and Crop Association, SoilWarrior, Innovative Farmers Association of Ontario and RealAgriculture will be providing information during the tours.

Get the Dirt on Phosphorus is part of the Great Lake Agricultural Stewardship Initiative.

The detailed agenda is available at svca.on.ca. Preregistration is required; to register visit coffeecropsdonuts.eventbrite.ca or call Tori Waugh at 519-367-3040 ext. 249.
