Guelph-Eramosa has chosen Drexler Construction Limited to complete the Valley Road to Richardson Street watermain connection.
Drexler Construction submitted the lowest bid at a price of $326,179. The township had budgeted $400,000 for the project.
“The Valley Road to Richardson Street watermain connection has been identified as an important capital project to provide distribution system redundancy in Rockwood,” public works director Harry Niemi stated in a report. “The project was approved in the 2017 capital budget contingent on grant funding under the Clean Water and Wastewater Fund (CWWF).”
In May the township received a CWWF grant, with federal and provincial governments covering $225,000 of the cost ($150,000 and $75,000 respectively).
“It’s nice when you see … a local firm sort of win the bid because that doesn’t always happen. But in this case, local firm, lowest bid,” said councillor Mark Bouwmeester.
The other two bids came in over budget:
– Capital Paving Inc. bid $411,085; and
– Blackstone Paving and Construction bid $507,537.
“Good work again staff on that grant,” Mayor Chris White said. “That’s hugely helpful. Anything we can do to keep the water rates down … it’s all a positive thing so better fire protection and all those good things.”
Niemi responded, “This would have been a project we would have done anyway in a few years. The funding allowed us to accelerate this.”
