The 4th Annual Fergus Whole Hog BBQ will be held on Sept. 10 at the Food School Farm next to the Centre Wellington Sportsplex in Fergus.
The event has grown to include 10 chefs ready to showcase their whole hog barbecue talents using heritage breed, organic, locally raised pork.
There will also be fresh corn-on-the-cob, organic veggie side dishes, and a seasonal dessert baked in a new cob pizza oven.
Meet with the chefs, savour the flavours of local craft beer and cider, listen to live music, mingle with friends, and enjoy the family ambience in this very popular annual event.
“The Whole Hog BBQ has become a ‘must attend’ annual event for foodies and families looking for a fun afternoon out,” stated chef Chris Jess, event founder and co-chair.
“It’s amazing to see, and taste, the different styles each chef uses to prepare their whole hog. The music, smells, and beautiful grounds create a terrific afternoon out with friends and family.”
Take a walk through the grounds where local youth are learning about sustainable agriculture. Visit the historic farmhouse that now acts as an education centre for innovative programming that supports and promotes learning opportunities regarding sustainable food communities.
Early bird tickets are $35. After Aug. 12 the ticket price is $45. Children under 12 with an adult are free. Tickets can be purchased online at guelph.snapd.com. They will also be available at Scotiabank and Fraberts Fresh Food in downtown Fergus, the Elora Brewing Company in Elora and the Bread Bar in Guelph.
“Our first three BBQs were smashing successes,” added Jess. “This event is the premiere fundraiser for the Wellington Centre for Sustainable Agriculture.
“It is our opportunity to not only provide an afternoon of entertainment and great food, but to share what we do.”
Participants are welcome to bring their own lawn chair, plates and cutlery to this outdoor event.
