A Harriston man is part of a group of 27 employees of a group of local radio stations celebrating after winning $1 million with Lotto Max Maxmillions in the Jan. 6 draw.
“We have been playing the lottery as a group for over a decade,” said group leader Dan Bieman of Harriston, while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto, where the group picked up its winnings in March.
“We range in age from 25 to 65 and we work in various departments of local (Blackburn) radio stations including sales, management, News writers and announcers.”
Bieman was with his wife when he first learned about the group’s big win.
“I went to OLG.ca and read out the numbers while my wife checked the ticket. The Lotto Maxmillions numbers all matched up so I took the ticket to the retailer for validation.”
Group members received an email from Bieman a short time later. “The subject line was, ‘Lotto group: Important message.’”
Mathew Vettese of Brantford responded by saying, “It is too early for April Fools. Is this for real?”
The group planned a celebratory lunch. Plans for individual group members include traveling to eastern Canada, the Caribbean and the USA, an Alaskan cruise, home renovations and the purchase of a house. One will be getting married this year and the win will help with the special event.
The winning ticket was purchased at Harriston Convenience on Elora Street in Harriston.
