The Town of Erin municipal office south of Hillsburgh will be renovated this summer.
On April 4 council approved a building department recommendation to waive the town’s purchasing policy to obtain three quotes for the project.
Council initially approved a total of $151,500 for the project and was hoping to receive a grant for the accessibility portions, including the installation of an elevator.
The town was not successful in receiving the grant, so staff found efficiencies by changing the scope of the project, said interim chief building official Robert Foster in a report.
The scope of the work includes a new accessible service counter, conversion of the existing equipment room to a meeting room and creation of a new clerk’s office, as the old one will be the location of the future elevator.
Foster said as manager of the project he will get three quotes from local contractors for the construction work.
“By having the work done in this fashion, the town is saving some costs regarding external project management, and can keep better control on timing and keeping the disruption to a minimum, as well as advance the schedule of the work,” Foster stated in his report.
Foster said he hopes the project will take about a month over the summer, adding the town will try to maintain normal hours.
Council approved the recommendation unanimously.
