St. David St. Bridge infrastructure work to begin April 10

Although the St. David Street Bridge rehabilitation is scheduled to occur in 2018, utility relocations are set to begin next week to prepare for the upcoming project.

This work will begin on April 10 and continue into September 2017.

In the next couple of weeks, extensive work will take place in the intersection of St. Andrew Street and St. David Street N. to relocate Bell Canada’s infrastructure for the bridge replacement. This work will involve:

– partial lane closures at various times on both roads;

– repairs on the west side of St. David St. N. from St. Andrew St. to Bridge St.;

– sidewalk closures; and

– due to some of the relocation needed in the intersection of St. David St. N and Bridge St., a full lane closure northbound, followed by a full lane closure southbound will need to occur later in the project.

The bridge on St. David Street (Highway 6) was constructed in 1968 and is nearing the end of its service life.

The bridge rehabilitation will include the replacement of the deck, girders and traffic barriers, modification of the abutments to a semi-integral type complete with new waterproofing and paving, road approaches, drainage improvements and utility replacement.

In April 2016, Centre Wellington Township was successful in securing a $2.2-million grant for the rehabilitation of the bridge under Ontario’s Connecting Links Program.
