Council here has supported a call for the province to deal with discrepancies in the way urban and rural residents are charged for electrical power.
At its Feb. 7 meeting, council supported a resolution from the Township of Zorra denouncing “inequity between the cost of hydro for rural residents as compared to urban residents due to higher distribution charges.”
The resolution states the practice “targets and negatively affects rural residents, especially those … already unable to pay for the high cost of hydro” and asks the province to:
– re-evaluate the structure of hydro in terms of access to delivery; and
– implement changes to address “the unfair practice of charging more” for rural delivery.
