The Optimist Club of Puslinch is planning the 5th “Annual Family Day Winter Classic Weekend” Feb. 18 to 20.
The weekend starts off with a Four-on-Four Adult Hockey Tournament at the rink on the Saturday and Sunday.
Teams representing local companies as well as teams from the surrounding area competing for prizes. Organizers state it is a great way for companies to show their support for their employees and the community.
Hot food and beverages will be available in the Puslinch Community Centre during the tournament.
Feb. 20 is the big day for kids of all ages. Many activities organized.
The community centre will be open from 11am on with clowns, face painting and life sized board games during the day and special entertainment is booked for everyone from 11:45am until 1pm.
Youngsters are encouraged to dress up in super hero costume and be prepared to have fun.
The Optimist Recreation Centre will be open at 11am. The gym will be available for use for those who wish to play pickup basketball, volleyball, dodge ball or other indoor activities. These activities will have adult supervision to ensure safe and fair play for all. On the rink we are planning a variety of activities and games followed by open skating with no sticks in the afternoon.
All the favorites from last year will be back! The horse drawn sleighs and the antique Bombardier school bus will give everyone rides throughout the day (depending on weather). There will be five “Activity Centres” in the park to encourage young and old to join in the winter fun. Archery, golf, catapult and human bowling. Check the Optimist website on Monday for an up to date listing of activities and times.
A big fire will keep people warm and organizers are hoping for some campfire music as well. A scavenger hunt will round out the afternoon.
All events and activities on Monday are free for everyone and the kids get free hotdogs and hot chocolate at lunch time in the community centre. Additional hot food will be available for purchase. Proceeds from the Hockey Tournament and food sales will help fund the weekend.
To register for hockey call Ken: 519 763-0309.
