New Year’s Eve will be a special one in Centre Wellington this year according to a press release issued by the township on Dec. 13.
First Night in Fergus on Dec. 31, begins a year-long celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary.
The family-friendly event downtown and along the Riverwalk of the Grand River. A street festival atmosphere will feature activities, interactive presentations about Canada in 1867, outdoor entertainment and more.
Organizers will be showcase fireworks with the first one taking place at 9pm followed by the finale at midnight.
Mayor Kelly Linton will be on hand to ring in 2017 with the community.
“There will be a number of community groups that will make this event instrumental,” said Deb Dalziel, tourism and destination coordinator.
This is just the first of many events planned to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday. Additional programs and events are in the works, and made possible by the funding support of the Centre Wellington Community Foundation and the Canada 150 Fund.
First Night would not be possible without its co-sponsor, the Fergus BIA. To cap off the year-long festivities, a second annual First Night celebration will take place Dec. 31, 2017 in Elora.
