On Dec. 13 Giant Tiger Stores Limited in Fergus announced its commitment to fighting hunger in their region with a $1,750 gift card donation to the Centre Wellington Food Bank.
“The winter months are the busiest time of year for food banks across the country,” says store manager, Jeff Reinhart.
“Keeping true to Giant Tiger’s grass-roots community initiatives, we want to make sure local food banks are fully stocked to ensure that every person and family receive the support they need.”
A number of communities received support through the Giant Tiger Charitable Giving Foundation to help fight hunger.
Over $40,000 will be spread out across the country just in time for the holiday season.
According to Food Banks Canada, 13 percent of Canadians live in a state of food uncertainty, which means they do not have dependable access to adequate amounts of safe, nutritious food.
Each month, over 850,000 people turn to food banks for help; more than one-third are children and youth.
“Donating to food banks is just one of the community initiatives that we do at Giant Tiger,” says Karen Sterling, vice president, marketing.
“We’re especially proud of the local impact our donations have in each community.”
