The Guelph Chamber Choir is performing Carols for Christmas, at St. George’s Anglican Church in Guelph on Dec. 4 at 2:30 pm.
The afternoon will include Christmas music and readings.
The audience will hear old Christmas favourites as well as new songs of the season.
The afternoon will conclude with audience and choir singing Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus.
“This promises to be an exciting program with new and familiar carols accompanied by harp, flute and hurdy-gurdy, a medieval instrument that has found a modern voice,” conductor Gerald Neufeld said in a press release. “With the message of Christmas in music, we can do our part to nurture a careful, considerate and peaceful society in our own corner of the global village.”
Soloists joining the choir on stage include:
– classical and celtic harp player Sharlene Wallace;
– 2016 Grammy-nominated flutist Ron Korb; and
– percussionist Ben Grossman who plays the hurdy-gurdy, a contemporary electro-acoustic string instrument with roots in the European middle ages.
Tickets are $25 or four for $80. However for students and people 30 and under tickets are $10. For youth with eyeGO tickets are $5.
Tickets are available from the choir or board members, through the River Run Centre by calling 519-763-3000 or online at www.riverrun.ca.
