The Grand River Conservation Authority is holding a free workshop for farmers in the Waterloo and Wellington areas to learn more about the role of microbes in soil health.
The Soil Health Workshop will be held at the St. Jacobs Lions Club, 31 Parkside Drive, St. Jacobs, from 1pm to 4pm on Wednesday, Nov. 30.
Soil microbiologist Christine George will speak about the microscopic community living in the soil and how it can influence the health of crops. Using a combination of up-close videos, presentation and demonstration microscopes, participants will learn more about nematodes, mites, fungi, bacteria, protozoa and the millions of creatures below the surface that contribute to soil health.
The event is being organized by the Conservation Services team at the Grand River Conservation Authority, as part of the Great Lakes Agricultural Stewardship Initiative’s Growing Forward funding. The workshop will be tailored to farmers and Certified Crop Advisors; however, anyone interested is welcome to attend.
