The Puslinch Fire and Rescue Services has responded lately to three abandoned house fires in the Guelph-Eramosa and Puslinch region.
“This is an alarming amount of fires that we are attending,” Puslinch Fire Chief Steve Goode said in a press release.
“These fires are not only dangerous to the public, they are very dangerous to our firefighters who have to extinguish them.”
Puslinch Fire and Rescue Services is asking for owners of properties with unoccupied buildings to ensure the buildings are locked and boarded up to help prevent entry.
If there is a gate at the end of the laneway, ensure it is closed and locked as well.
The fire department asks residents living near an abandoned building to keep an eye out for suspicious activity such as vehicles or persons on the property that should not be there.
If it looks like there is suspicious activity happening, owners should report it to the authorities.
