The Elora Centre for the Arts (ECFTA), in partnership with Tim Murton, will be lighting up Halloween this season with Twilight Zoo: Back from the Dead.
Murton’s Twilight Zoo is a collection of strange and spooky wire and gauze sculptures that illuminate the shadowy recesses of Elora.
Now in its 17th year, the installation has become one of the village’s most talked about seasonal attractions.
This October, Murton will be bringing his menagerie of monsters to the ECFTA for a month-long exhibition and workshop series.
In celebration of the spirit of Halloween and creativity, the centre will be transformed into a dreamscape of ghoulish and glowing creatures for all to enjoy.
Located in the village’s old three-story schoolhouse, the Elora Centre for the Arts has experienced some challenges in recent years. Not least of which has been holding onto the heritage building they have called home since 2002.
With an expanded board of directors and backing from local artists and the wider community, they have managed to stay in the 160-year-old building. Co-chair Sheila Koop is very confident about the current direction of the ECFTA.
Koop sees the Twilight Zoo as a wonderful way to celebrate the centre’s revival.
Aptly titled “Back from the Dead,” the exhibition is a fundraiser in support of the not-for-profit centre. Admission to the October exhibition will go towards arts education initiatives and operational costs.
This year, the ECFTA and Twilight Zoo will also be playing official host to the Monster March after party.
Children participating in the march will receive free admission to the post-parade event on Oct. 22.
Tours run Oct. 12 to 30.
