OPP: majority of drivers obeyed rules during safety blitz

WELLINGTON COUNTY – The county OPP unit issued many tickets and warnings recently in a safety blitz of area school zones.

Police say officers dedicated 93 hours to this patrol, resulting in 41 warnings, 29 speed-related charges, three bylaw warnings and three bicycle helmet cautions.

GUELPH – On Sept. 11 at about 3:15pm, a Wellington County OPP officer allegedly observed a passenger not properly wearing a seatbelt in a 2008 Mercedes on Woodlawn Road near Silvercreek Parkway North.

Police say during the investigation suspected Percocets were located on a passenger, who was arrested and released at the scene with court documents.

Fidan Sylejmani, 29, of Cambridge, was charged with possession of Percocets and failing to properly wear a seatbelt. He is to appear in Guelph court on Oct. 21.
