The Palmerston Imperials, a group of PeeWee-aged boys from Minto, Mount Forest, Teeswater, Arthur and Grand Valley that play highly competitve fastball, are hosting the Ontario Amateur Softball Association (OASA) Provincial Eliminations June 24, 25 and 26 at Barb Wright field in Palmerston.
Team officials are asking people to come out to watch and help raise money for the team’s quest to leave Ontario and represent the province in Saskatoon, SK in the Canadian Nationals.
Teams entered in the double-knockout OASA PeeWee elimination tournament are: Tavistock Athletics, Chatsworth Express, Wyevale Junior Tribe, Cobourg Legion Dodgers, Dutton, Wellesley Wildcats, Napanee Express, Kitchener Waterloo Kolts, Innerkip Jr. Eagles, Norwich/Otterville Otters, Shallow Lake and the host, Palmerston Imperials.
Games start on June 24 at 4pm and run to June 26.
Opening ceremonies are at 8pm on Friday. Left handed pitcher Curly Wright, who started his softball story in the 1960s, will throw out the first pitch to open the tournament.
Palmerston plays its first game on June 24 at 8pm at diamond one.
Three or four Ontario teams will play in the Canadian Championships in Saskatoon in August.
