At about 9:15pm on July 6, the Guelph Fire Department received multiple calls of fire and smoke coming from a home on Wellington Road 124.
The first unit to arrive found heavy smoke coming from the front kitchen window and when crews entered the home they found the fire had already extinguished itself.
The department shut off the hydro to the home.
The fire was caused by a pot of oil left on the stove.
After checking for extension it was determined that the fire was contained to the kitchen but had caused the kitchen window to fail resulting in heavy smoke and heat damage to the rest of the home. There were no injuries and no one was home during the fire.
OPP closed Wellington Road 124 for approximately 90 minutes during this incident.
