Neil Simon classic at Drayton theatre

In his semi-autobiographical classic Brighton Beach Memoirs, award-winning playwright Neil Simon celebrates the spirit of family and the hilarious journey of growing up. The production illuminates the Drayton Festival Theatre stage with humour and heart from June 15 to July 2.

Set in the Brighton Beach section of Brooklyn, New York in September 1937, this coming-of-age comedy tells the story of the Jerome family through the eyes of its narrator, 15-year old Eugene Morris Jerome.

Director Marti Maraden brings this story to life. Maraden is no stranger to the Drayton Festival Theatre having directed Looking, Death Trap, and Tuesdays with Morrie previously.

Born and raised in New Brunswick Thomas Duplessie makes his Drayton Entertainment debut as Eugene.

He has performed in theatres across the country and has also worked in television including appearances on Man Seeking Woman (FX), Heroes Reborn: Dark Matters (NBC), Bitten (Space/SyFy) and Reign (CW).

Victor A. Young and Gabrielle Jones play Eugene’s tough yet loving parents, Jack and Kate respectively.

New to Drayton Entertainment, Alex Furber plays Stanley, Eugene’s worldly older brother.

Playing the role of Eugene’s high-strung aunt, Blanche Morton, is Susie Burnett. She’s joined by Anna Bartlam and Ellen Denny as her mismatched daughters Laurie and Nora respectively.

Tickets are $44 for adults and $26 for youth under 20 years of age. HST is applicable to all ticket prices.
