Kinettes host Stanley Cup party featuring Spaling’s Sharks

Community residents can get together at the PMD arena to watch local hockey star Nick Spaling compete in the Stanley Cup playoffs.

The Drayton Kinettes will be hosting a community Stanley Cup party at the arena auditorium whenever Spaling’s San Jose Sharks are playing the Pitsburgh Penguins in the cup final. The games will be shown on television and food and beverages will be available for purchase.

The event will be a fundraiser for a planned community splash pad and donations will be accepted.

Mapleton council passed a resolution waiving hall rental fees for the events at a special meeting on June 1.

“We just thought how many times is this community going to be able to say, ‘Hey we’ve got a boy from here playing on an NHL team in the Stanley Cup finals,'” said Mayor Neil Driscoll.

Pittsburgh won the first game of the series on May 30.

Game two is set to go June 1 at 8pm. Game three will be played on June 4 at 8pm with game four set for June 6 at 8pm.
