Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington (CSGW) has become known for the annual mulch sale fundraisers in Guelph and Fergus, and successfully expanded the campaign to the north end of Wellington County.
The addition of a mulch sale in Mount Forest allowed residents from Wellington North and surrounding area to purchase their mulch while supporting CSGW, according to fundraising chair Rob Mattice.
“We wanted to build on the success of the first two sales, knowing how popular they are, and felt that a mulch sale would be well received in Wellington North,” he stated.
He added that the latest event is slightly different, in that CSGW partnered with Young’s Home Hardware both in hosting the event on April 30 and offering the product at cost to maximize the funds raised for the program.
The second event, in Guelph, was held May 7 at the University of Guelph parking lot 19 on College Avenue East, followed by the Fergus sale May 14 at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex.
Combined, the three events raised more than $18,600, which will go toward paying Tipster rewards and promoting the program.
The mulch sales are the main fundraising campaign for CSGW, a non-profit organization, which relies on fundraising and donations to pay board approved rewards.
“It’s been a terrific season, but we really could not have done it without our volunteers,” said Sarah Bowers-Peter, program coordinator for CSGW.
“We had youth and community volunteers support us, some of them came three weeks straight.”
Bowers-Peter also acknowledged the support of Guelph Police Service and Wellington County OPP both in promoting the events and attending to offer support at the individual sales; be it through social media awareness or the assistance of auxiliary officers.
