At a special event, the Town of Erin posthumously awarded Bill Dinwoody the Citizen of the Year award in recognition of his great contribution to the town.
Dinwoody, who passed away suddenly in November, was a strong advocate for community health care and recreation services, said nominator Donna Revell.
He served as chair of the recreation and culture committee, the Erin Trails group and on the board of directors for the Waterloo Wellington Local Health Integration Network.
“I think it was well deserved. Bill was very involved in the community, was very instrumental in the trail system locally, gave unselfishly of his time, (and was a) well-respected individual,” said Mayor Allan Alls after the event.
Revell said Dinwoody was very active with the Credit Valley Conservation Authority, which honoured him with awards for his work on the Woollen Mills Trail and for organizing tree planting projects.
Dinwoody also provided leadership helping develop the Rotary and Water Tower trails and Riverside park which opened last year.
“Volunteers are absolutely essential to make it a good strong community,” stated Alls.
