Guelph-Eramosa Township is requesting a community safety zone on Highway 7 and Main Street North in Rockwood.
Mayor Chris White said the zone would be “within the urban borders and basically the routes that the kids walk to school.”
Community safety zones are sections of roads where public safety is acknowledged to be a concern.
Though rules of the road do not change in the zone, the purpose is to let motorists know that the fines in those areas have increased (many are doubled.)
At its April 18 meeting, Guelph-Eramosa council endorsed an application to the Ministry of Transportation for a community safety zone to be installed on Highway 7 from MacLennan Street to Fall Street and on Main Street North.
