The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport will provide $254,000 in provincial funding to help stage the 2016 International Plowing Match and Rural Expo this fall.
The funding, through the province’s Celebrate Ontario program, was announced April 18 by Michael Coteau, minister of tourism, culture and sport.
“Ontario is home to many unique and diverse festivals and events that showcase our province and attract visitors from all over the world,” stated Coteau in a press release.
“I’m proud that through Celebrate Ontario, our government continues to support this vibrant sector. Our investment will help festivals and events offer new and expanded experiences that will support local economic growth, create jobs and draw tourists to communities across the province.”
The funding is part of a pool of $15.3 million in support of 200 festivals and events across the province.
The grant for the IPM, which will take place from Sept. 20 to 24 near Harriston, was the largest of three announced for events in Wellington County.
Riverfest Elora organizers will receive $61,394 to assist with the festival, scheduled for Aug. 19 to 21.
A grant of $74,295 was announced for the Elora Festival, which runs from July 8 to 24.
