IPM kick-off concert takes over Drayton Festival Theatre April 30

The 2016 International Plowing Match and Rural Expo Kick-Off Concert will take place on April 30 at the Drayton Festival Theatre at 2 and 7:30pm.

The show will feature two great performances filled with authentic country music to kick off the Wellington County International Plowing Match and Rural Expo, organizers say, adding “music lovers of all genres and ages won’t want to miss this exciting lineup.”

At 2pm Ty Baynton, “Canadian Country Boy,” and Wendell Ferguson, a Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame guitarist, will take to the stage.

In early 2012 Baynton released his first self-titled EP and the leadoff single Out Here On The Farm was on the air in Canada and the southern U.S. The album garnered him a nomination for Best Country Artist at the Toronto Independent Music Awards.

Baynton followed this up by releasing what has now become his signature song, Canadian Country Boy, which launched him on a series of cross-Canada tours and back into the recording studio for a full length album.

Ferguson has been playing guitar since he was 7 years old and he says, “It’s taken me over 40 years to become a child prodigy.”

He’s played and recorded with big names in the industry in several genres of music.

At 7:30pm Ferguson and The Western Swing Authority, CMA Ontario Group of the Year, will perform.

The Western Swing Authority consists of Shane Guse (fiddle, vocals), Stacey Lee Guse (vocals), Ed “Pee Wee Charles” Ringwald (steel guitar), Dan Howlett (fiddle, vocals), Paul “Chappy” Chapman (guitar and vocals), Matthew Lima (stand up bass) and Jimmy Boudreau (drums).

Their live shows are upbeat and fun, organizers state.

Though individual members’ touring and recording credits are impressive, including names like Gordon Lightfoot and Dean Brody, it is the sum of the parts that is garnering attention and recognition worldwide, organizers say.

Tickets are $35 for each of the two shows and can be purchased in advance online at https://www.draytonentertainment.com.
