OPP reminding drivers to keep off closed roads after numerous offences

Wellington County OPP officials are reminding motorists to keep off closed roads.

Police say roads can be closed for various reasons including weather, motor vehicle collision investigations or other reasons as deemed necessary.

While investigating a fatal vehicle collision on March 25, OPP officers turned around 13 motorists within an hour who drove around a clearly marked “road closed” sign.

Driving on a closed road is an offence with a fine of $110 and three demerit points.

“Driving on a closed road can impede an investigation or put emergency responders at risk,” police say. “Insurance coverage may also be voided should a motorist drive on a closed road and encounter an issue putting them further at risk.”
