Elora Tina Turner tribute to benefit veterans

Tina Turner is on her way to the Elora Legion,  with Luisa Marshall performing cover versions of the entertainer’s hits.

Marshall is bringing her Hope Beyond Thunderdome Canadian Veteran PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) Awareness Tour to Elora Legion Branch 229 on May 14 at 8pm. Tickets are $25 each with $5 from each sale going to help veterans with PTSD.

All proceeds from the Elora Legion event will be going to the Operation Stress Injury Program at Parkwood Hospital in London. The hospital is part of St. Joseph’s Health Care London.

“If we have any veterans in our area that needed help or assistance they would be [sent] to the London hospital,” said Legion spokesperson Angie Walser. “So we are keeping it local.”

In addition to the funds raised from ticket sales, the Legion will hold fundraisers throughout the night that will go to Parkwood Hospital.

At least 50 tickets must be pre-sold for Marshall to make the trip to Elora.

Tickets are available for purchase at the Elora Legion or by visiting http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2525343.

Walser said the Canadian Veteran PTSD Awareness Tour is a first for the Elora Legion.

“They contacted me on Facebook,” she said. “So I think they were just going through all the Legions that want to host them.”

Marshall will be putting on a solo show and, in Tina Turner fashion, she also performs songs from her favourite artists like Shania Twain, Etta James, Lady Gaga, Amy Winehouse, Donna Summer and more.

Her website promises “lots of crowd interaction and entertainment.”

Anyone who cannot attend the performance but would like to donate to the Canadian Veteran PTSD Awareness Tour is encouraged to contact the Elora Legion to make a contribution.
